Biography

Julie is well versed in a number of photography genres and enjoys tinkering with light to achieve creative results. Besides working on commissioned projects, Julie regularly travels the country with the Speedlight Fundamentals / Flashgear.net team to teach off-camera lighting to other photographers. She has taught over 75 seminars to date. As an instructor, Julie meets her students at their level of ability and does everything she can to help them realize their creative potential. She’s always prepared with a bag full of Westcott gear to help someone’s idea come into focus. 

Mental health is important to Julie, and she has been a longtime advocate for awareness in the creative community. In her personal time, she can be found most days in the country, loving on her USMC Gold Star Family as a full-time homeschool mom to her four children and as queen bee to their flock of many chickens.

Awards & Recognition

  • Professional Photographers of America (PPA.com) is the leading body for certifying imaging professionals. CPPs must complete a written examination, finish an image evaluation and adhere to a strict code of conduct. Certification must be renewed on a periodic basis, ensuring continued confidence in the professionalism of Certified Professional Photographers.

  • This international program's recognizes photographers through performance in competition, judged by industry-leading experts and former award winners. This designation represents multiple images achieving a Silver award in competition.

  • Publications are ranging in scope from local news outlets and society magazines to national periodicals including Redbook and Cosmopolitan magazine.

  • Julie’s military homecoming images are currently on Loan to National Museum of the Marine Corps (2014-present) as part of the “Welcome Home” exhibit.

  • Over 75 fundamental and advanced lighting seminars with Flashgear.net, keynote Speaker at Bedford PhotoCon (x2), Precision University, and more.
