Introduction to Gels

Here's a couple SOOC images from our last meetup where I used red gel to make the model look like she was stepping out of the fire backdrop behind her!

Gels are a piece of colorful plastic you put over your light to change the color of the light.

When you light a scene with a gel, some colors are quick to take over the whole scene, like this red gel on the back light (behind the subject) here. That's great when you want someone "on fire"! LOL.

Anywhere you put a NON-gelled light source has potential to overpower the gel. The main light is a Flashgear 20" Quick Parabox (with grid), and is washing out the gel on her face, so we can see her skin tone!

Follow me to learn more about using gels to have fun creating and shaping the light!
